FUNKY AND JUNKY

                      

 

                                    

Our names are Henri (Funky) and Angie (Junky), and we started FUNK YOUR JUNK INC. about 15 months ago.   At the time we were both busy running a large operation, in the corporate world.   Circumstances provided us with an incredible opportunity to be creative, while having an impact on our children’s/grandchildren’s planet.  Let’s face it; they are going to need it longer than we will.

     **Textile waste accounts for more than 4% of materials in Canada’s landfills.

We believe that the easiest green tip is to use less.  Yup, it’s that simple.  While there are many aspects of our lives where we practiced this, we had one area that we were weak.    We both love fashion, so we definitely weren’t using less.  How could we change this and still enjoy our passion?  That is how the concept for FUNK YOUR JUNK was born.

     **On average, 80% of textiles thrown away still have 75% of their wear ability left.

Initially we began to do it personally, but realized this concept could have a greater impact if others believed in it as well.   The challenge was that second hand clothing wasn’t a fashionable term or concept.  How could we change the way people looked at gently used; make it fashionable to up-cycle a look?  So we began to handpick items that we felt were high fashion.

     ** If everyone in Canada bought one reclaimed woolen garment each year, it would
save an average of 300 million gallons of water and 400 tones of chemical dye.

So here we are with a budding business, great product, and a passion to make a difference.   We want to make eco conscious hip, and break away from the stereotype that buying previously used isn’t styling.   So join us on our journey of rock and roll – trendy -hippie chic, and have an impact on our planet one item at a time.
