FUNK YOUR JUNK BYWARD MARKET, OTTAWA
What you’ll find: How could you not like a store that describes itself as “funky, bohemian, hippie, cowgirl chic, add some worn, torn or chipped and peeled pieces, with a splash of retro funk and unique junk.” Owners Henri (Funky) and Angie (Junky) combine recycle with retro to create a store where nothing is what it seems and everything has a second life -belts made from comic books, earrings made from watch parts, buttons or pencil ends, wallets made from candy wrappers, bags made from record albums. In addition to the funkiest ’60s clothes around (remember embroidered sheepskin jackets, tie-dye, happy faces and peace signs?), there is a huge selection of refurbished denim, footwear, hats, clothing and memorabilia in this eclectic and totally fun boutique.
What you’ll spend: Rope sandals are $40; album bags are $38.
Where: 110 Parent St. (at Murray Street) in the ByWard Market.
Hours: Monday (sometimes open); Tuesday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
